The Mauser 66 uses a QD barrel system allowing one to quickly swap between various calibers depending on the pursuit, not dissimilar to the modern Blaser R8s. This example is fit with three sets of barrels in 5.6x61, .270, and 7mm SE; barrels are discretely import marked ahead of recoil lugs. All barrels are fit with blade front sights on raised islands with stippled ramps, rear sights with U notches, and fit for claw scope mounts, with typical original Mauser information and proofs. Action has been engraved in deep relief of a bugling elk and a doe in a forested scene on the left, and a leaping pair of roe deer and doe on right, supported by thin tendril floral scroll. Forearm, pistol grip, and butt have been relief carved with oak leaves, which served as checkering. Double set triggers (working), contrasting forearm and pistol grip caps with whiteline spacers, and a BMR branded recoil pad with white line spacer. Housed in a brass tabbed leather case with accessories comprising an oil bottle, basketweave sling, allen wrench for barrel changes, and test targets for each caliber, dated 1968; based on the dates and numbers, the .270 and 7mm barrels are later than the 5.6mm barrel. Three scopes are included, all Zeiss Diatal-D 6x42 scopes with duplex reticles, on claw mounts. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining virtually all of the factory finishes to wood and metal with some superficial scratches and handling marks to barrels, a few silvering. Stock excellent with some scattered handling marks and impressions but free of cracks or chips. Engraving crisp. Mechanically fine, bores excellent with strong rifling and some moderate frosting, glass is clear. Case fine with typical handling marks and exterior scuffs. A well presenting set with a plethora of calibers available, depending on your interest.
