This gun was made in 1859 and is so dated on lock with "US Springfield" and an eagle on the Maynard primer cover. This was the first year this model was made with the iron patch box and fore-end tip. All metal is finished in-the-white with a blued two leaf rear sight and small post front sight. Features tulip metal rod, three bands, swivels, near full length walnut stock. CONDITION: Excellent. The white finish is showing some patina and age freckling. The stock has an expert repair at top of wrist, a spliced piece of wood at comb, and the usual array of dings. An added coat of finish has been added on the cleaned stock and cartouche stamps are not visible. Smoothbore is dark. Action is fine.
