There were three Lemans that operated out of Lancaster, Pennslyvania. Peter Sr. and Jr. built guns from beginning to mid 18th century while Henry built rifles for Tryon from 1834-1887. This appears to be an original percussion rifle, which leaves only Henry. The lock is stamped "Leman Lancaster PA". Features a heavy octagon barrel, full length walnut stock, double set triggers, brass furniture, wood rod, German silver knife blade front sight and single leaf rear sight. There is a 7 - 1/4" brass palm plate at base. Bore is rifled. CONDITION: Good. All iron is brown patina. The stock has several repaired cracks at wrist. Some of the stock finish has turned almost black. Set triggers work. Rifling is well defined. Very famous maker. It is most likely that this heavy barrel small caliber rifle was made for bench shooting and not a trade rifle.
