Manufactured in 1844 in standard configuration throughout. Altered in the Civil War era to an oval loading port for use with paper cartridges. Marked on top of barrel with "W. Jenks" and "USN / RP / P / 1844" near breech. Marked on left stock flat opposite lock with "RP" and "JL" inspector cartouches. CONDITION: Excellent, with barrel retaining a strong majority of its National Armory Brown finish with scattered areas of light freckling and handling marks. Lock retains bright case colors. Brass barrel bands and trigger guard are a pleasing mellow patina. Stock is excellent with scattered handling marks, with most offensive at trigger guard and near plunger arm. Cartouches are sharp. Action is tight and crisp. Bore is bright and shiny with sharp rifling. Breech is still in the white, appearing unfired.
