This is a fine example of a mid-1880s cavalry revolver. It has all matching numbers on barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder, and in pencil inside the grip channel. The D.F.C. stamp for David F. Clark is stamped on base of barrel, cylinder, base of left grip panel and frame. The left side of grip has the date 1885 with FH cartouche for Frank Heath. The right side of grip has the script DFC cartouche. The assembly number on loading gate is 647. Barrel has the one line Colt legend. Left side of frame has the three line patent legend along with U.S. stamp. Standard finish is blue and case color with one piece walnut grips. Last year for the oval ejector head. CONDITION: Fine. Case colors on frame and hammer have turned a soft patina. The cylinder has strong blue in flutes and a pleasing homogenous mix of blue and patina on balance. The barrel still shows some strong blue that is blending patina with sharp barrel legends. The grips are excellent with strong cartouche stamps and a small chip under the JH cartouche. Screws are mostly true. The action is crisp with strong half cock. The bore shows well defined deep cut rifling with some minor abrasion. A very clean, well above average, mid 1880s example.
