December 10-13, 2024 Firearms & Militaria
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/12/2024
This carbine is in the second model serial range but has the walnut forearm of a third model. The lock is stamped with "Bristol Firearms Co" while right side of lever has the rare "G.P. FOSTER PAT / APRIL 10TH 1860" legend. The top of receiver has the Burnside 1856 patent legend partially obscured. All visible matching 671 serial numbers. Top of barrel is stamped "CAST STEEL 1860". Standard features include the round barrel, integral front sight, small folding rear sight, blue finish, saddle bar and ring, and American walnut stock & forearm. Issued to numerous cavalry units, it is documented that the second models were carried at the First Battle of Bull Run by the Rhode Island infantry. CONDITION: Very good. Judging the condition, this carbine was stored for years on left side. The barrel and receiver on left side show an overall brown textured appearance with no finish. The right side of barrel is also brown patina but not all the texture. The right side of receiver retains 90% of the factory peacock bright blue finish as does the lever. The case color lock is a smooth dull grey. All legends are sharp. There is no visible cartouche on left side of stock but they are solid with minor blemishes. The bore is sharp and bright with a bit of frosting near muzzle.
