Manufactured in 1849, this is one of 7000 made for the United States Dragoons. The left side of frame has the small U.S. stamps with Colt's Patent legend. The cylinder has the first type oval notches with the USMR Indian scene roll die. Also features the brass square back trigger guard and back strap. The barrel has the Colt New York City legend. Gun has all matching numbers, including the wedge. Comes with a fine and scarce period military style flap holster. CONDITION: Very good. The cylinder is a homogenous patina with at least 75% fairly crisp Indian fight scene. The gun indexes and operates correctly. The barrel legend is crisp and barrel displays some minor pitting along with some muzzle softening and has some wiped on finish applied. The brass has been cleaned. The one piece walnut grips are shy to metal with scattered dings. The case colors on frame have darkened. The frame screws are marred. The rifling is well defined but does exhibit some abrasion. The holster has some age checking but solid and complete. Overall, a handsome early Dragoon rig with great eye appeal.
