A first year of production, serial # 364, Indian altered Springfield carbine. Shows evidence of heavy frontier use with multiple German silver repairs to wrist, extremely heavy wear to extreme fore end, saddle ring bar removed, and a row of three brass tacks (some now missing) applied on both sides. The high arch breechblock is marked "MODEL/1873/eagle/crossed arrows/U.S.". Lock plate is marked with the eagle and "U.S /SPRINGFIELD". Hammer functions properly with a two click tumbler. Metal has turned overall mottled dark gray and brown. Stock is a straight grip style with a steel carbine butt plate with cleaning kit opening. Stock has not been examined to see if cleaning kit cavity is actually there, or merely a butt plate added later. M1884 Buffington rear sight added as a later date replacement. Stock is absent of any inspection cartouches due to dryness and heavy period wear. Bore is dark and dirty. CONDITION: Good /relic.
