The lock on this conversion is dated 1864 along with the eagle and Springfield eagle. Breech block is dated 1866 over eagle head. Other features include the folding ladder rear sight, the shorter 32 - 5/8" barrel, two barrel bands, metal cleaning rod, and near full length walnut stock with no visible cartouche stamps. Originally finished in-the-white. Left side of barrel has a G inspector stamp. Left side of receiver shows an eagle head. CONDITION: Very good. This period alteration shortened the barrel, forearm and eliminated one band. All metal is basically a smooth brown patina. Wood was refinished at one time and exhibits scattered dings and impressions with a hairline on left side under breech block. Bore is well defined but has some abrasion.
