Manufactured at the Erfurt Arsenal in 1915. Standard blued finish, protected blade front sight, tangent rear, and walnut carbine stocks. Carbine currently is fitted with a trench mud cover marked "W / CO / DPR" at the rear and on the mounting clip. Designed by Weissenberger, these covers protected the rifle from the ever present mud and dust of trench warfare. Bottom metal is replaced, other externally visible numbers are matching. No visible import marks. Complete period leather sling. CONDITION: Very Good. Rifle retains the majority of its arsenal blue with expected wear. Bottom metal is largely cleaned to gray patina. Stocks are very good with light impressions and some finish crazing. Bright bore with strong, well defined rifling. Fine mechanics. Sling has some leather rot but remains solid.
