Believed to have been manufactured by Asa Waters as a contract rifle musket, one of only a few rifle muskets known with lock marked "U.S. / MILLBURY" forward of hammer and dated 1864 behind hammer. Breech is not marked with US markings and proofs, left flat of stock opposite lock does not have a cartouche. Top tang of buttplate is stamped "US". Configuration is of standard 1861 rifle musket pattern. CONDITION: Very good, with iron assemblies turning a light russet patina. Stock shows no major signs of distress. Mechanically fine. Bore is dark with visible rifling.
