The Springfield receiver dates to circa 1935. The barrel is stamped RIA 5-22 with bomb. The stock is a WWII field replacement scant style. The forearm is a pre-WWI high hump with the inside cut out. The rear sight has one WWI-era knurled and grooved knob. The floor plate and trigger are milled. World War II pressed barrel band. Butt plate is smooth. Has newer swept bolt. Early type sling with brass frogs. Base of stock carved "Myron Kapostinski 1-15-21". Since the handguard is the only item on this rifle made before 1921, perhaps this was the soldier's birthday and this rifle used during WWII. CONDITION: Very good as arsenal rebuilt and refinished Stock is excellent with minor impressions. The chamber sleeve and barrel retain strong blue over some pitting. The receiver has a rainbow heated hue. The bore is dark.
