Manufactured towards the end of WWII with various time and resource saving measures. Fitted with unprotected blade front sight and aperture rear. Receiver marked with only an intact Imperial chrysanthemum, the Type 99 marking not included on these late rifles. Last ditch bolt handle and crudely finished safety knob. Military stock with wood butt plate, the sling swivel removed. Right side of stock is charred, presumably from a flame thrower or other battle damage. The intact mum also likely indicates this rifle was a wartime GI capture and bringback. Includes a hooked quillion bayonet with steel scabbard. CONDITION: Fair. Rear sling swivel and rear action screw are missing. Dark bore. A very interesting rifle.
