The early serif serial number on this gun places date built to 1909. The barrel is stamped RIA with bomb and dated 9-18. The finger groove walnut stock has both retaining bolts. Early straight bolt. The handguard is a 1918 era with short sight groove. The rear sight is set to 2700 yards. One adjusting knob has early groove, both are knurled. The stock has no visible cartouche. The butt plate has no checkering. All parts are milled with the split swivel band. It is obvious that this early rifle was arsenal overhauled and updated in 1918 for the war with no parkerized parts, retaining what remains of the WWI blue finish. CONDITION. Very good. The receiver is a smooth gun metal gray with some dull blue on shroud. The floor plate and guard are dull grey patina. The bands retain flashes of bright blue and the exposed barrel retains majority of blue. All legends are sharp. The stock is solid with just usual minor dings and impressions. Bore is well defined but frosted. The sling has brass frogs but is two slings combined.
