Per the included factory letter, this pistol shipped as a 5" .45 ACP with blued finish, unlisted stocks, and a special order adjustable sight, shipped to Glasgow-Allison Company,Charlotte, North Carolina, on May 27th, 1940, in a shipment of one. Classic silhouette with tall serrated ramp front sight, and Stevens Type II adjustable square notch rear sight. Left side of slide with Colt's patent and address rollmark, right side with National Match legend rollmark with Colt pony; slide numbered 177602 under firing pin retaining plate. Barrel with "MB" proof on left lug for Match Barrel. Frame has "G" proof near disconnector hole and a Swartz safety; given the common belief amongst target shooters that safeties like the Swartz safety negatively affect trigger pull, it appears that the slide was sourced specifically to not have one. Frame with proof "P" and Colt's VP on left side of trigger guard, and "60" inspector mark on right side. Small parts comprise checkered spurred hammer, thick tab safety, checkered magazine release, short checkered trigger (with evidence of shoe used at one point), checkered slide release, long A1 grip safety, and arched knurled mainspring housing, with fully checkered walnut grips. Accompanying the factory letter are a Colt hangtag with National Match information, fold out pamphlet advertising the "The world-famous .45 cal. Service Automatic Pistol with Hand-Honed Target Action and "Match" Barrel.", and a manual that includes a sectional view, parts list, instructions for disassembly, and information on operation and magazines. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining the vast majority of the factory bluing, with distension about the proofs from application of stamp. Some scattered handling marks and superficial scratches, and thinning to sharp edges. Some heavier markings around slide release and high traffic areas such as straps. Mechanically fine, magazine does not lock back, bore with visible rifling and frosting in grooves. A good example of a well loved target pistol from when Colt was building their finest handguns, with some very rare paraphernalia.
