Per Clawson's "Colt .45 Government Models", production of these very rare guns only lasted for two months, between September and October of 1961, but lists serial numbers starting at 107; "The Book of Colt Firearms" expands on the National Match, and lists the serial numbers as starting at 101. Fjestad's Blue Book also lists the starting point as 101, indicating that Clawson may be mistaken; in either scenario, this gun is the defacto "number one" for this model. Blade front sight, square notch adjustable rear sight, left side with "SUPER / MATCH // COLT // SUPER .38 / AUTOMATIC // (Rampant Colt)", right side with Colt's patent and address information. Barrel hood with "COLT SUPER .38 AUTO". Frame with serial number on right side, trigger guard with a "4" inspector/assembler mark on right side, "P" and Colt's VP proof on left. Small parts comprise narrow serrated hammer, serrated thumb safety and slide release, lightened serrated Gold Cup National Match trigger with overtravel screw, and serrated magazine release. Long A1 grip safety, arched serrated mainspring housing, and gold medallion checkered walnut grips. Magazine with "Colt // SUPER / .38 AUTO". Accompanied by relevant scans from Clawson, Fjestad, and The Book of Colt Firearms. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining virtually all of the factory bluing with some extremely minor marks and some discoloration to exposed bright metal. Mechanically fine, bore with strong rifling and frosting in the grooves. An extraordinarily scarce Colt in outstanding condition.
