This gun was one of the 1000 revolvers shipped in lot 8 on March 3, 1874. The highest number gun in a Custer range is around 10500. This Colt bears all matching numbers with exception to the walnut grips that bear an 8000 number. The Ainsworth A is found stamped on the trigger guard, back strap and cylinder. Gun has early donut style ejector head, one piece walnut grips, two line patent date with US on frame, single line barrel address, early hammer and was blue and case color. The right grip panel is engraved Grovenlres (antiquated Indian tribe verbiage) CONDITION: Good. Barrel has been stretched 2 1/2". All legends legible. No original finish but now a grey patina. Grips are excellent. A few replaced screws. Action is missing it's loading half cock stage. Action locks up tight. Bore is well defined.
