1889 dated percussion trade gun of the type traded to Native tribes by the Hudson Bay Company for over 100 years. This rare example has the typical oversize trigger to accommodate winter mittens, brass serpent side plate, and has been cut down and profusely carved in Northwest coast totemic animal motifs and then eyes were accented with abalone. Lockplate marked, 'BARNETT / LONDON / 1889'. Directly behind the hammer is a seated fox over 'E B' initials. Northwest coast trade guns carved in this manner are seldom encountered as opposed to their Plains Indian counterparts. CONDITION: Very good, dark overall patina with solid mechanics.
