This attractive and signed Upper Susquehanna rifle features a deeply rifled octagon barrel inscribed "S * Miller" with scrolls engraved on each end. There are also rocker panel engraved designs on both sides of rear sight. The lock features a roller frizzen and is stamped "I / TARRATT / WARRANTED". The brass furniture includes an engraved four piece patchbox with 12 piercings. The rifle also has a pierced sideplate, brass cheekpiece cover inlay, shaped buttplate tang extension, forend wear plate, entry ferrule with long tang, an engraved silver inlaid American eagle above the cheekpiece and 8 silver crescent moon inlays(one on each side of every barrel key). Silver oval wrist escutcheon below small crescent moon inlay behind barrel tang. Fine highly figured tiger maple stock with incised scrolls behind the cheekpiece on the left side of buttstock. Inlayed borders along forend on both sides terminating in scrolls above ramrod entry ferrule on both sides. Complete with its original wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a light grey patina, signature and engraving are excellent. Lock retains a dark grey patina, functions well and is in its original flintlock configuration. Brass retains a pleasing light mustard patina. Stock shows some scattered marks from use and repaired chip in front of front lock tang. A very attractive signed and desirable Simon Miller rifle.
