Rifled octagon barrel with swamped muzzle. Flat lockplate engraved with single-line border. The brass furniture includes an engraved four-piece brass patchbox. Sideplate engraved en suite. Engraved eight-point silver star inlaid above cheekpiece and vacant silver oval wrist escutcheon with rocker panel engraved border. Figured tiger maple stock of early form with Roman nose buttstock and relief carved scrollwork on both sides of the cheekpiece and around barrel tang. Shaped panels around lock and sideplate. Complete with a period wood ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a dark patina and is heavily pitted. Lock in its original flintlock configuration but may be a second lock. Brass retains a mostly dark patina, shows some wear and marks from use. Stock shows scattered small areas of replaced wood, age cracks, minor losses, and marks from use.
