This circa 1830-1850 Kentucky rifle was stocked using an early and original engraved and "G. Weiker gun Smith" signed four-piece Bucks County patchbox. This is the earliest form of Bucks County matchboxes and signed examples are exceedingly rare. The Moravian style 8-point engraved silver star on the left side of the buttstock is also likely from the same early Weiker rifle. This rifle features an octagon barrel with notched rear sight with an additional folding sight leaf. Percussion stamp-engraved lockplate marked "JAs GOLCHER / PHILADA". The other brass furniture appears to have been made later, when the rifle was stocked. Partially figured tiger maple stock with dark purple Lehigh County violin finish. Complete with its original wood ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel and lock have been chemically cleaned and retain a pitted grey surface. Lock markings are good. Brass has been cleaned and is now mellowing. Stock shows some areas of finish exposed around mounts when they were polished. Stock shows scattered age cracks and marks from use. A couple splinters absent along barrel. A nice Lehigh rifle with early Bucks County components.
