One of the 433 that were part of the 1871 contract for the state militia. Standard Peabody Martini style single shot military full rifle. Top of barrel has K2 42 unit marking with inspector stamps at left breech. This rifle was originally a .43 Spanish but in the 1877 over haul, most were rechambered to 45-70 but due to short action, they will only chamber the shorter carbine round. There is a B 27 stamp on top of wrist, otherwise, standard blue barrel, nearly full length walnut stock, post front sight, military folding rear sight (replaced at one time as all blue still present), metal rod with Peabody legend on left side of receiver. Rifle issued without swivels and CONN 27 is stamped on rear swivel filler. CONDITION: Very good. Besides the blue rear sight, all metal is a soft patina. Legend on frame is all legible. Stocks are solid but do have scattered dings and bruises. Bore is bright.
