A fantastic folk art representation of the Battle of Santiago de Cuba. The diorama is housed and displayed in a attractive pronounced wood frame that was most likely designed to be built in a wall, but is merely conjecture. The battle is depicted at its climax, with a row of ships from each navy firing upon each other. In the foreground is the row of US Navy battleships and armored cruisers with the Spanish fleet's armored cruisers and destroyers in the background. The Spanish fleet is either enflamed or sinking. The backdrop is painted with a scene of Santiago de Cuba with the faces of the US commanders William T. Sampson and Winfield S. Schley. The diorama remains intact and the frame exhibits scattered areas of finish loss giving it great character. This is an excellent representation of perhaps the most famous naval battle of the Spanish American War and is most likely one-of-a-kind. CONDITION: Good.
