Circa 1880s Great Lakes area Native American bandolier bag. These bags were modeled on European style shot pouches and worn by Native men on formal or festive occasions and sometimes made to trade or give as gifts. This example features highly stylized vegetal and floral motif beadwork. Linen plain weave and cotton velvet with glass bead embellishment construction. CONDITION: Very good, appears supple. Not examined outside of frame.
