Mid-range guns generally have part octagon barrels but this is a special order sporting rifle. The underside of barrel is stamped PG for pistol grip which was standard on a mid-range. Also, has the folding ladder rear sight with disc not found on target guns. Lastly, the caliber .40 is stamped under barrel and this gun is chambered for the .40-50 bottleneck cartridge while target guns came in 40-70. Therefore, this is a very special and rare version of a standard sporting rifle that features a 30" heavy octagon barrel, folding beech front sight, Remington rear sight, tang sight, walnut stock with flared checkered pistol grip missing the ebony insert with a smooth steel butt plate. Forearm has the metal tip. Remington legend is stamped on top of barrel. CONDITION: Very good. There are no remaining case colors on receiver which is now a freckled patina. The barrel is basically in the same condition with flashes of blue, sharp edges and a strong legend. Stock is excellent with sharp checkering and light impressions as does the forearm. The bore is sharp and clean. Action works correctly.
