Manufactured by Westinghouse in 1915 as part of a World War I Imperial Russian contract, which was defaulted on in 1917 during the Bolshevik revolution. Many of these arms, including this example were purchased by the US government who utilized them as training rifles and to arm the Polar Bear Expedition of 1918-1919 into Russia. Some were also given to the Czech Legion to fight the communists and others sold to Mexico. This rifle remains in full military configuration with blued finish, blade front sight, early style rear sight, and finger groove walnut stocks. Left side of the butt marked with Russian inspections, the underside of the forend ahead of the magazine also stamped with an American flaming bomb and "U.S". CONDITION: Good. Original blue has largely faded to a homogenous plum. Bolt has developed a brown patina. Stocks have been cleaned and reoiled with scattered impressions. The US markings are somewhat faint but visible. Fine, bright bore with crisp rifling. Fine mechanics.
