Manufactured in 1890. Under the forearm, the barrel is stamped 38-55 and 2 (barrel type #2) The barrel is octagon to round and has the Winchester legend on top. The left side of barrel is stamped "Rebored and rifled by Stevens A&T Co Chicopee Falls Mass" Rifle has a flat muzzle as well as a properly set globe front sight. While it is possible that Winchester shipped this rifle with a 31 3/4" barrel, it is more likely that it had damage and was shortened and re-chambered by Stevens as marked. The rifle has a rear slot filler and sports a tang sight. Rifle sports a walnut stock with a nickel plated Swiss butt plate and matching forearm that has the ebony inset. The wrist has a round head bolt knob reinforcing bolt with light repair at top of wrist. CONDITION: Very good. Barrel retains approximately 90% of the blue which may have been applied by Stevens, after barrel alteration, that is mixing with some patina. There are no visible outward case colors on frame or lever which are now a soft patina. The stocks are fine with scattered dings and impressions. The extreme tip of the Swiss plate is missing meal tip. The bore is bright.
