G.E. Fulton began shooting military rifle competitions in the early 1880s, shooting with much distinction and eventually founding a shooting company in 1895. Upset with the adoption of the Short Lee-Enfield and later the 25" barrel limitation for Bisley matches, Fulton became a pioneer accurizing the SMLE rifles, including developing action bedding. This SMLE MK III match riffle was built by Fulton, as is signed in old English script "G.E. Fulton, Bisley." on the trigger guard. Fitted with a BSA barrel also marked at the breech "REGULATED / FULTON". Standard protected blade front sight and tangent rear. Walnut stocks are masterfully fitted and with a spring bedded handguard and extra retaining strap for added accuracy. Nose cap is likewise opened to not make contact with the barrel. CONDITION: Good. Rifle retains the vast majority of its period reapplied blue which has started to fade, the magazine largely toned patina. Stocks show heavy handling and a small split at the magazine cut off. Strong, frosted bore. Fine mechanics. A very interesting and important match rifle.
