It is listed that 1068 Sharps rifles were converted to cartridge in all models and " all with the lined 3-groove barrel" but this example is not lined and has the original 6-groove barrel measuring .54 at muzzle. Everything else is typical such as the blue barrel with RSL inspector stamp of Richard Lawrence. Top of barrel has the Sharps Hartford legend with standard three bands, Lawrence marked ladder rear sight, post bead front sight, nearly full length walnut forearm with metal tip, walnut stock with iron patch box and butt plate. Stock has the typical DFC ribbon on left side, the David Clark inspected guns done from Feb. 25, 1868 to Oct 6, 1869. The serial number is in the highest range being above 40000. The right side plate has the Lawrence and C. Sharps legend with patent legend on left. Also sports the standard swivels. CONDITION: Very good. The blue and case colors are now all a dark grey patina. Legends are crisp. Top of barrel has a couple of spots that are pitted. Stocks are solid with scattered impressions. The rifling is sharp but does have some minor abrasion. Action is crisp. Why did it not get the three groove liner? Early conversion made during development prior to standard shipments, possible.
