Receiver manufactured circa 1882 with a star suffix serial number, the star occasionally used by Springfield to denote the guns made from mixed parts, guns to be held in reserve, and guns intended for transfer to guard units. Fitted with a standard proofed carbine length barrel with blade front sight and "C" marked rear. The case hardened low arch breech block is marked "US / MODEL / 1873". 3-click tumbler. Carbine length stock stamped along the underside of the forend "RKO P S103" and O. B D. STUDl". Standard mounts including a single barrel band without stacking swivel, saddle ring and bar, 2-piece trigger guard, and tool trap butt plate. CONDITION: Good. Barrel retains faded traces of blue, overall drifting to a mild brown patina. Breechblock, lock, and tang retain traces of case color, especially in protected areas. Hammer is likely a replacement in very fine condition. Stock shows heavy honest military use with dings, nicks, and abrasion throughout but no major damage. Heavily frosted, worn bore with a few areas of heavier abrasion. Fine mechanics.
