This is a true buffalo rifle in that the barrel breech is taller than the frame. It fits a 45-70 but the chamber is 1/4" too short. Since caliber is not marked, would advise a chamber cast. Made from 1868-1888. The barrel is full octagon with a knife blade front sight and a buckhorn rear sight. Barrel has no legends but serial number is at base of barrel. The case color receiver is marked with Remington legend on tang. The mid-range tang sight is period but was added to this rifle, at the time, as the rear mounting hole runs through the legend. Other standard features include a walnut stock with steel S-curve butt plate, matching forearm with steel tip. CONDITION: Fine. This gun is in outstanding condition for a true buffalo sporting rifle. The barrel is a baby smooth blue brown soft patina. The case colors have silvered out with scattered age freckling. The stocks are excellent, perfectly fitted, no cracks or chips with usual scattered impressions. Action works fine and the bore is sharp and bright. One of the best of this genre we have seen.
