This is a Bridgeport model heavy octagon barrel in .45 2 1/10 (45-70) caliber. Shipped on December 22, 1877 to Schuyler, Hartley and Graham in a shipment of 140 guns, full octagon, weight 12 1/4 pounds. Gun has the Sharps Bridgeport barrel address with OLD RELIABLE. Proper style ladder rear sight but not stamped Lawrence, front base has a period brass blade, left side of receiver has the Sharps patent date. The serial number is placed horizontally to allow legibility when tang sight is installed. (no tang sight and was not shipped with one.) Bottom of barrel has matching serial number. Breech is stamped .45. Walnut stock with matching forearm. Also features double set triggers. It appears as if forearm has matching serial number stamped inside but hard to read .CONDITION. Very good. This rifle saw use. There is no visible traces of blue or case color but metal is clean and smooth with no cancer. Forearm is chipped on both sides, shows wear forward 3" and has a replaced forward retaining screw. Stock is a bit shy to metal with scattered dings and chips and one added small metal diamond decoration. Legends are strong. Hammer will not stay on full cock so cannot test set triggers. (probably needs new main spring) It appears as if this rifle's bore was well kept as it is strong but frosted. This old timer did not spend it's life on east coast shooting ranges.
