This heavy octagon example is a Bridgeport gun. Letter states it was shipped to Ben Kittridge of Cinn. on January 5, 1878. All specs match gun which is listed as weighing 12 1/2 pounds. Top of barrel has the Sharps address with OLD RELIABLE. The left side of receiver has the Sharps patent legend. The serial number is stamped horizontally as to be seen if tang sight is applied and this gun has matching number on base of barrel. The barrel breech is stamped Calibre .40. Rifle features double set triggers (working). The ladder rear sight is not stamped Lawrence. The front side has silver blade. The walnut stock features a steel checkered butt plate. The forearm has the pewter tip. CONDITION: Very good. There is no visible blue or case color where as this rifle is a baby smooth patina with scattered age freckling. The legends are sharp. The stock is excellent but does have a closed small crack at wrist on right side at tang along with scattered dings. There is a 5 3/4 x 1/2" replacement wood repair at upper right side. The action works fine. The bore is strong, lightly frosted and appears to have been well maintained. Very handsome example.
