David Glassbrenner lived between 1798 and 1872. He is listed as a rifle maker and gunsmith in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in the second quarter of the 19th century. The rifle features a rifled octagon barrel inscribed "D * Glassbrener" on top flat, towards breech. Flat percussion lockplate with brass hammer. Center marked "SPANG & / WALLACE / PHILADELPHIA". Brass furniture includes a well-engraved four piece patchbox with floral motifs. The sideplate is engraved with a star and inscribed "No. 149". The highly figured tiger maple stock has a relief cheekpiece and is molded with relief scalloped panel below. CONDITION: Very good and untouched. Barrel retains a brown patina, signature area lightly cleaned. Lock retains a light brown patina, some wear to markings, functions well. Hammer and brass furniture retain a dark mustard patina. Stock retains much old finish and shows a few scattered marks from use.
