Jonathan Dunmeyer worked in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, just west of Bedford County. This rifle features a rifled octagon barrel. The lockplate is unmarked. Double set triggers. Foliate scroll engraved brass four-piece patchbox. Engraved brass sideplate. Tiger maple stock with incise-carved scrolls on left side of buttstock, on both sides of wrist, and around barrel tang. Some more simple incised carving elsewhere. Replaced wood ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a brown patina with corrosion at breech. Lock strong but may need adjustment, retains an applied finish and has scattered pitting overall. Lock a replacement made to fit the original mortise. Brass retains a mustard patina, triggerguard return repaired. Stock very good with age cracks, some forend restoration and scattered marks from use.
