Confederate and field officer's sword made by Louis Froelich at the Confederate States Armory in Kenansville, NC. The 2009 text by John McAden & Chris Fonvielle, Louis Froelich: Arms-Maker to the Confederacy, shows identical examples and explains the evolution of the Wilmington Sword Factory to one of the largest Confederate manufacturers of edged weapons and accouterments, the "Confederate States Armory". A copy of this text and the original purchase receipt from Shiloh Relics are included. The blade exhibits a heavy chocolate patina throughout that would be expected from a battlefield recovered piece. Blade has obviously been shortened. The guard exhibits a dark patina that presents as brown and red in some areas. The letters large "CSA" letters in the guard remain clear, although the hilt is warped. Several casting flaws are exhibited on the hilt. Wood grip is present with a few splits. Only a small piece of brass wire remains at pommel. CONDITION: Relic.
