The saber is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Army of Tennessee Relics. According to the certificate, this saber was found stuck in the ground by a hiker in the woods near Florence, Alabama, during the 1930s. There is speculation that the sword was used as a grave marker for one of Nathan Bedford Forrest's cavalrymen since it was stuck in the ground and appeared as such. The sword exhibits a heavy chocolate patina throughout that would be expected from a battlefield recovered piece. The "CSA" and "NASHVILLE PLOW WORKS" address remain sharp and clear on the guard. Wood grip is missing with brass backstrap wobbling in place, still attached to the tang. Tip of blade is darker for the first 7" where there is a change in patina due to being stuck in the ground. The certificate also states it was purchased directly from the family of the hiker and is ex. Charlie Harris Collection. CONDITION: Relic.
