Manufactured by BSA in 1917 per markings at wrist. Typical configuration with Samco import marks on right side of receiver, "Cal. .303 in" on top of receiver. Matching numbers observed on receiver, nosecap, and bolt. The G prefix was one of the prefixes used by the Irish Free State when they renumbered the rifles that they received from Britain to allay fears that guns would "disappear" and end up in Republican hands; the G prefix rifles were converted for use for launching grenades, but this rifle was subsequently rehabilitated into a more traditional configuration. "S" at heel of buttstock, "4" at pistol grip. CONDITION: Metal has been reblued over some handling marks and impressions, legends heavily softened, excepting import marks, which are crisp. Wood has been replaced with a more standard configuration, sanded, and left somewhat dry, with some scattered handling marks throughout, including some missing chips at right side of pistol grip and at toe, and a crack at heel.
