One of the most recognizable carbines of the Civil War. The American Machine Works legend is on left side of receiver along with the Poultney & Trimble legend. This tip down loading single shot carbine features an octagon to round blued barrel, a single barrel band, dove tail front German silver sight, folding rear sight, case color receiver with barrel release inside trigger guard as well as the saddle ring and bar. The walnut stock shows a razor sharp inspector cartouche of JH in script in oval representing Joseph Hannis who came to work at the plant to inspect the Smith carbine on Jan. 11, 1862 where he worked until 1864. The left side of barrels wears the LFR inspector stamp of LaFayette Rogers. CONDITION: Fine. The case colors on frame have darkened out. Legends are all sharp. Barrel retains 90% plus blue that shows some overall light age freckling. The wood is excellent with usual scattered dings and impressions. Bore is mirror bright. The barrel lock bar on top retains majority of bright blue. Sharp Civil War carbine.
