Manufactured 1915-1917. Built on the square butt five-screw N-frame with pinned barrel. Almost 15000 of these handguns were shipped to England and Canada for use in the First War. There were also some commercial models made. This example has only one unusual stamp at butt, 30 with a 2-panel crown (?), and was imported more recently into the states and is so marked under the barrel. Gun shows all matching numbers to include pencil number on right grip panel. Gun shows standard factory finish bright blue, case color hammer & trigger, lanyard ring, large half moon front sight and gold medallion diamond checkered walnut grips. Comes with English style brown flap holster that is not marked. CONDITION: Excellent. There is blue wear on straps and muzzle with scattered handling, high edge wear and some thinning but still retains at least 80% plus bright blue. Legends are sharp. Grips are excellent with minor chip and initials at base but sharp checkering. Action is smooth and the bore is bright. Really a sharp early Smith.
