An attractive War of 1812 painted knapsack for an NCO of the 2nd Company of the 16th Regiment Massachusetts Militia. This is one of a group of knapsacks that were found in the McLellan House in Gorham, Maine. Captain McLellan commanded a company in Lt. Col. Burbank's regiment, raised at Gorham in 1814. This knapsack was probably worn by Calvin Edwards, the Second Sergeant of the company. The knapsack measures approximately 14" x 13" and exhibits vibrant colors with crazing and light areas of loss. Supple construction. CONDITION: Very good.
