Manufactured by Enfield in 1918 per markings at wrist, before ending up in Ireland, with an "FF" cartouche on top flat of receiver; the FF stands for Fianna Fail, and was the insignia of the Free State Army. Without an altered Irish serial number, this rifle was acquired by purchase, capture, or theft, and used during the Irish War of Independence. After the Irish War of Independence, this rifle made its way back to Britain, where it was renumbered into an M prefix range by BSA, as they reconditioned many rifles for use during World War II. Stock disc blank. Nosecap is numbers matching, bolt is mismatched. CONDITION: Good, showing honest military service. Significant portions of faded arsenal applied finish is retained, the balance fading to pleasant gray/brown patina with areas of freckling. Stocks have expected dings and nicks throughout, the forend cleaned and reoiled. A period repair present at the top of the wrist. Strong and bright bore with mild frosting. Fine mechanics.
