A classic of the Walloon variety, named for the ethnic group in the lowlands, but used widely on both sides during the English Civil War. This example has the pierced counterguards that are typical of the type. The pommel is elaborately cast and finished with leaf decorations. It has two branches with two balusters cast in each, a thumb ring, and a single downward-facing quillon. CONDITION: Blade retains a grey patina transitioning to brown with some surface rust towards tip, old repair just above tip, which is slightly rounded. Hilt retains much of a silver overlay or plate, otherwise grey/brown patina. The grip is a modern replacement. Hilt is slightly loose to blade.
