Manufactured circa 1850s, likely by F.J. Bitterlich of Nashville Tennessee. Each barrel is marked with the "SCHNEIDER & Co. / MEMPHIS TENN." address and serial number "36". Pistols are also numbered "1" and "2" on the tangs. Fitted with German silver blade front sight and v-notch rears. Standard back action percussion locks. Checkered walnut stocks are of classic Southern form with square butts and silver plated spur triggers. Mounts are also silver. CONDITION: Very good overall. Barrels and locks have faded to a pleasant dark patina. Silver has likewise mellowed with age, some mild high edgewear present on the trigger showing through to German silver. Stocks retain the majority of their original finish with some moderate wear and light marks. Fine mechanics. Bores show wear but retain defined rifling. A very scarce and attractive pair.
