Manufactured circa 1822 at St. Etienne and converted to percussion by a French armory in 1862. French military markings observed near breech on barrel. Left stock flat opposite lock is marked "Noux J.M.", with 5636 rack number and French Roundel dated 1862. Lock retaining plate and breech are both faintly marked "S. Carolina", which show age, possibly Confederate. CONDITION: Good, as heavily cleaned at some point in the past, now returning to a speckled brown patina. Brass assemblies show signs of heavy cleaning as well, now returning to a mellow patina. Stock is very good with heavy handling marks and repair near front of lock. Mechanically fine with 2 crisp stops at half and full cock. Bore is dark with well worn but visible rifling.
