Lot consists of: (A) Edward Barnes & Sons Sheffield bowie knife with a 7 - 5/8" clip point blade that is highly embellished on obverse. Blade is marked "EDWD BARNES / & SONS" and "THE REAL LIFE DEFENDER / THE HUNTERS COMPANION" as well as "GARRICK / WORKS / SHEFFIELD" on cheek with ricasso marked "WARRANTED / OF THE BEST". Obverse blade exhibits a pleasant etching that reads "Genl Taylor never surrenders / Battle of Buena Vista". Silvered football shaped crossguard with stag grip that is likely a period replacement. Crossguard and grip both wobble when handled. Silvered pommel. Blade exhibits freckling with clear markings. Housed in its original leather scabbard with faint scrollwork decorations. Silvered mounts, missing frog stud. Scabbard exhibits 1 split with scuffs and wear. Most likely carried by a veteran of the Mexican-American War. CONDITION: Good. (B) Spearpoint bowie knife with an 8" blade marked "TRUSTWORTHY / M / MAPPIN / & COMPY / SHEFFIELD". on obverse ricasso and "M / TRUSTWORTHY" on reverse ricasso. Blade with scattered blemishes and light edge wear. Thick silvered cross guard and octagonal solid brass hilt with patina. With original red leather scabbard that features impressed decorations and silvered mounts. Missing stud. Scabbrad with scattered scuffs but remains intact. CONDITION: Good.
