Lot consists of: (A) Short sword with inscription on the upper mount that reads "OJINAGA, MEXICO / JAN 1914". Scabbard remains intact with pleasing patina to mounts. CONDITION: Good. (B) Large, bone handled, brass eagle pommel Mexican Bowie knife circa late 20th century. Clip point style blade is acid etched with a leaf pattern and the motto "El Valiente Que Me Ataje Lo Depacho a un Largo Viaje" (Translation: "If the brave one stands in my way, I'll send him on a long trip"). The obverse depicts a scene of 2 hunters with dogs shooting a stag and is marked "Hecho en Oaxaca Guillermo Maldonado Calzada Madero". Ricasso still shows the nail polish inventory mark from the time it spent in the Rob Abels collection. It also resided for many years in the Lou Kosloff collection. Kosloff was known in the Western collectibles world as the author of a well known book on California bits and spurs. Blade retains original sharp tip, shows scattered mossing spots while retaining deep and visible acid etch details. Bone handled shows patina and wear with the standard stress lines.
