This musket is from George Neumann's personal collection, as shown and described in his book "Battle Weapons of the American Revolution" on page 89, plate 39.MM. It is cited as being in the "Author's Collection". The musket is also pictured on page 26 of George Neumann's article "America's Incredible Louisbourg Victory, 1745" published in the August 2010 edition of "Man at Arms" magazine. The musket is of standard configuration for this model. Barrel with faceted breech section and long top flat. Barrel marked "(crown) / LL / (heart)"(Control stamp of Lilien) and crown over "CN" for inspector Nicholas Carteron. Early walnut stock of French form with Roman nose buttstock. Model 1717 lock marked with crown over "SE" for St. Etienne Arsenal and "CG" below. Standard Model 1728 iron furniture with swivel mounts on center band on left side and a ring mounted behind the sideplate. Wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a heavy dark patina, some corrosion at breech. Lock retains a dark patina and is in its original flintlock configuration, functions well. Furniture retains a heavy brown patina. Stock has long thin sliver replaced on both sides of forend along barrel, otherwise shows scattered marks from use and a small sliver replaced below lock tail from oil cutout and two pieces below front of lock. A rare and important published musket from a renowned author and collector.
