In 1863, President Lincoln fired his new Spencer rifle at the National Mall and immediately ordered his US Secretary to adopt this weapon but he refused. (he was fired less than a year later) This is a standard rifle in all respects. Round barrel, three barrel bands, folding ladder rear sight, post front sight, lever action, tube fed through butt plate / stock (7 shots) The stock and nearly full length forearm are walnut and rifle sports a reproduction sling. The bridge of the receiver has the Spencer 1860 legend. CONDITION: Very good. Often referred to as attic condition. No finish, all dark brown patina. Legend is clear. Stock shows overall dents, gouges and two period drilled holes near lower wrist. The forearm displays its fair share of use as well but survived in better condition than the stock. About the only thing done to this rifle was to oil it down, wipe down the light surface rust and run a rod down the barrel. The bore is defined but has overall abrasion. True battle survivor.
