Israel Segalas was a French Huguenot born in 1714 who migrated to England and apprenticed to his father as a gunmaker. He was a freeman in 1745 and proofmaster from 1763-1772. This pair feature swamped barrels with four proofs on each pistols on left sides of breeches. also marked "SEGALAS / LONDINI" on breeches. Early flat banana lock plates with faceted unbridled pans, centers marked "SEGALAS". Iron trigger guards with acanthus leaf finials. The rest of the furniture is silver. Walnut stocks of early form with relief carving around barrel tangs, locks, sideplates, and on forends. CONDITION: Locks and barrels mostly bright, showing some wear and light pitting. Locks are in their original flintlock configurations and function well. Furniture retains a pewter patina. Stocks show scattered areas of restoration. An attractive pair of silver-mounted pistols.
